Anxiety Disorders Center:  What are anxiety disorders?

 

Approximately one in 10 Americans suffers from an anxiety disorder.  Anxiety disorders are serious yet treatable psychological disorders that affect the person’s behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations.  Experts now believe that anxiety disorders are caused by a combination of biological and environmental factors.

Panic episodes, extreme levels of anxiety and worry, obsessive-compulsive behavior, posttraumatic stress, and phobias are all symptoms of anxiety disorders. You can obtain additional information about specific anxiety disorders below.
