Anxiety Disorders Center: Available Treatment
Effective treatments for these disorders are
available for adults, adolescents, and children at the Anxiety Disorders Center
at The Institute of
Living.
Currently, the Anxiety Disorders Center offers outpatient treatment
only. Participants from out of town may stay in a local hotel or motel
during the course of treatment. Inpatient treatment is available through
The Institute of Living; however, this treatment is
separate from that offered by the Anxiety Disorders Center.
The first step is to identify the problem and its symptoms, as well as any
environmental or biological factors that might be contributing to the problem.
This is accomplished during an assessment visit with a mental health
professional.
After the assessment, the client and the mental health professional will
discuss the results of the assessment. The client will learn about their
treatment options, and the mental health professional will make specific
treatment recommendations.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy will be provided at the Anxiety Disorders Center under the care of a
licensed psychologist who is an expert in the treatment of anxiety.
Intensive (daily) outpatient therapy is
available for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and panic disorder.
Medications will
usually be provided outside of the Anxiety Disorders Center by a licensed
psychiatrist. Some clients already have a psychiatrist whom they wish to keep
seeing; we can work with the existing psychiatrist and make recommendations as
needed.
Free Treatment may be available for people who are participating in
clinical research projects. Some of these projects involve medications; others
involve CBT. Contact the Anxiety Disorders Center for more information about
research projects.
