Fulfilling CME Requirements Online

As of October 2007, the new CME requirements for physicians and dentists by the Department of Public Health include at least one hour during the preceding two-year period, in each of the following topics: infectious disease, risk management, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

The websites listed below can be used to fulfill the new CME requirements online, at no cost to you.

1.   http://cme.alphamedpress.org
Go to the website and register under CME Registration.  There are several Risk Management courses including the one entitled "Medical Mistakes:  A Workshop on Personal Perspectives" for 1 hour Category 1.  After completing online you can print your certificate online.

2.   http://cme.emedicine.com
Go to the e-Medicine website and register.  Your first 1.5 hour course is FREE.  After you register you can select the course entitled "Sexual Assault" for 1.5 hours Category 1. After completing online you can print your certificate online.

3.   http://www.amwa-doc.org
On the AMWA website, select Medical Education and then select Continuing Medical Education and then Domestic Violence.  Under Domestic Violence you can select the course entitled "Domestic Violence Health Care Provider Education Project."  From there you can select the Course Evaluation Form and CME Certificate, which is worth 2 hours Category 1.

4.   http://www.medscape.com/hiv/cme
This WebMD website called Medscape HIV/AIDS is filled with free CME online courses giving Category 1 credits and online certificates.

5.   http://www.medpagetoday.com
Multiple courses, daily headlines, and most of the CME’s you need are there.  They will keep track of your CME's and provide documentation when needed.

In addition, if you log on to the Connecticut Psychiatric Society website, www.ctpsych.org, under the CME/Events portion of the Members Only section, there are hyperlinks to organizations that offer CME fulfilling these new requirements, but you must be a CPS member.

You can also log on to the Connecticut State Medical Society website, www.csms.org or www.CMElectures.org/csms to complete CME requirements online.  For more information you can call CSMS at 877-263-5400 .
