Geriatric Inpatient Care

Donnelly One North is an 18-bed geriatric psychiatric inpatient unit. We accept patients age 55 and above. Our unit has 2 separate areas, each providing unique services and nursing care. One area is for patients suffering from any type of dementia with behavioral disturbances, and the other area is to provide treatment to patients with psychiatric illnesses, such as depression, bipolar illness, and thought disorders.

The mission of Donnelly 1 North is to promote, maintain, and restore the health of Connecticut’s elderly by providing the highest quality patient and family centered acute behavioral healthcare.  Defining elements of this care are: a patient centered care focus; a stewardship of patient resources; and interventions that are based on current research and outcome measures.  A dedicated, specialized staff, consisting of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and a dietician, work together in a collaborative manner with the patient and family.  Our goal is to treat each patient individually, focusing on strengths, as well as, treatments, that will improve each person’s level of functioning and reduce the distressing symptoms of psychiatric illnesses.  Our unit atmosphere is professional, yet warm, with respect and dignity of the patient at the forefront of our day-to-day routine.
