MHISC: The MHISC Model

 

Comprehensive Mental Health Wellness Program

All 10 components, when part of an integrated community-wide effort, will contribute to a healthy learning environment for each member of the community and the community as a whole.

  1. Established and well communicated policies and procedures regarding student’s mental health needs and their access to services.

  2. Board awareness and support of policies and procedures.

  3. School Leadership commitment to designing and implementing services to enhance mental health wellness.

  4. Faculty awareness of school policies and training in adolescent mental health issues. 

  5. Support staff awareness of schools policies and training in adolescent mental health issues.

  6. Parent awareness of school policies and procedures, and training in effective communication with the school.

  7. A pro-active advisor system – the school’s safety net. 

  8. Prevention curriculum – which includes peer support and decision making.

  9. Mental health screening and referral services based on written policies and procedures for the confidentiality of the communication of sensitive information. 

  10. Written plans to accommodate students who require academic, psychological and/or therapeutic supports. (ADA and/or special needs, IEP).
