MHISC: Professional
Development Program Description
The Helping Relationships: A Time of Reflection
How often do educators/school staffs go home at the end of the day
with nagging sensations of inadequacy about situations such
as a child crying in the playground, harsh criticism overheard in the
staff room, or an unreturned phone message from a disgruntled parent?
At times, the list seems endless.
Adults working in independent schools are in the unique
and privileged position of helping students maximize their mental health.
The multiple demands placed on them often drain their energies from the
primary focus of their jobs. To be helping adults they need strategies
that empower them to stay in their roles and reach out to students and
their families in efficient, authentic ways. This program will present
practical strategies for managing one’s self in relation to the
complicated and often sensitive needs our students and their families as
well as our colleagues bring to us on the job! The training sessions will
be designed to meet the unique and specific needs of each independent
school within its unique mission.
