Schizophrenia Treatment Services: The Family Resource Center
A Service for Families and Friends Dealing with Schizophrenia
and Other Related Disorders
The Family Resource Center (FRC) is the hub of The Institute of Living’s
Schizophrenia Initiative. The FRC has available three main services. First, to
provide educational, supportive, and outreach services to families who are
dealing with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD). Secondly, the FRC will
offer an accessible and user friendly, comprehensive source of information on
the disorder, its treatment, and what community resources are available to help
families’ better cope with the impact of the SSD on their lives. This
information will be housed at the IOL and enable family members, consumers, and
professionals to drop in and utilize written, Internet, and staff members’
expertise. Finally, the FRC will provide for the training and development of
staff who work with SSD. As part of this the FRC will integrate its work with
that of the other parts of the Initiative to develop models of practice which
will improve the care of patients. Staff for the program includes James Seltzer,
Ph.D., Senior Consultant; David Vaughan, LCSW; and Mary Cameron, Administrative Support.
