The Addiction Recovery Service
Chemical dependency is a disease. It is a destructive process
characterized by a physical and/or psychological dependence upon mood-altering
chemicals. Causal factors include biological risks,
social/cultural/environmental influences, psychological influences, and the
addiction potential of mind-altering chemicals. Chemical dependency is
multifaceted and individualized in its effect, and while it can be treated and
arrested, it cannot be cured.
