innovative care for patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and related
disorders. The programs serve patients (children, adolescents, adults, and
older adults) and their families by providing specialized treatment throughout

Programs of the Schizophrenia Initiative:
Buckingham Residential
Program
This program provides housing for patients who cannot live on their own, or who
need more support than can be provided at home, or in their current living
situation. Housing can also be provided for out-of-state patients who cannot
immediately live on their own, or who can benefit from supervised, communal
living. Residential counselors assist patients in utilizing community
resources and to work toward greater independence and the establishment of
residency in the community. [Contact: Peter Adelsberger at (860) 545-7059

The Cognitive Rehabilitation
and Education
Skills Training Program of the Grace S. Webb School (CREST)
The
CREST Program is a unique, multi-disciplinary, special education
program for students with psychotic diagnoses. These students
have been unable to profit from education even within a highly
structured academic setting. The low stimulus environment is intensively
staffed (approximately 2 to 1 programming ratio) to
provide intensive support while maintaining students within a
community atmosphere. Students and their families are educated to understand and
compensate for symptoms of their illness.
CREST specifically address the emotional, cognitive, and motivational issues of the student with psychotic processes. [Contact:

Schizophrenia Consultation Team
(SCT)
The SCT is a "think tank" consisting of a
multidisciplinary group of experts in the assessment and treatment of
schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The SCT's goal is to provide
assistance to professionals, patients, and families dealing with
complicated or treatment resistant aspects of the illness. This
assistance is provided through the development and evaluation of
evidence based models of treatment throughout the IOL continuum of care. Direct
consultations for individual patients in the IOL
system of care, as well as people being treated in other healthcare programs are also available. [Contact:
James Seltzer,
Ph.D. at (860) 545-7252 or jseltze@harthosp.org]
In addition to these specialty services, the IOL offers a
complete range of assessment, inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient
services for children, adults and the elderly covering the complete range of
psychiatric and dual diagnosis issues. [Contact: Assessment Center
