Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Department of Psychiatry, Hartford Healthcare, has a postdoctoral fellowship position in brain imaging data analysis available, starting in mid-2022, located at The Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center at the Institute of Living.
Candidates must have Ph.D. degree, although MD/PhDs are also encouraged to apply.
The 2-year NIH-funded fellowship is under the direction of Drs. Godfrey Pearlson and Pavlos Papasavas. The successful applicant will join a center conducting research in brain function and structure in both healthy and bariatric populations. This position will directly support a currently-active NIDDK-funded R01 by analyzing fMRI data from a longitudinal study of pre-/post bariatric surgery. The data analyses will be focused on task-elicited brain activation and connectivity, with the objective of identifying brain network-related profiles that show meaningful associations with clinical status and accurate prediction of post-surgical outcome. The postdoc will receive training in sophisticated neuroimaging data analysis techniques (e.g., independent component analysis, multi-modal analysis, etc.). In addition to opportunities to develop their own program of research compatible with the primary source of funding, the applicant will have access to several large archival neuroimaging datasets to pursue intersecting interests (e.g., fMRI, sMRI, DTI, EEG, genotyping, neuropsychological assessment). The candidate will gain experience with academic manuscript preparation through numerous opportunities to both take the lead and to co-author studies on this and conceptually related projects.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Computing, Psychology, Neuroscience, or directly related field that has provided a working proficiency with fMRI statistical methods within Linux/Unix environments and at least basic biostatistical training. Additional relevant skills will increase competitiveness, e.g., knowledge of Bayesian statistics, graph theory methods, etc. or other technical prowess, such as Matlab Bash shell scripting, or other programming languages. The ideal postdoctoral candidate will be exploring or already be committed to a research career involving clinical and/or cognitive neuroimaging methods.
The fellowship is open for an initial 2 years, with an option to renew. The Olin NRC is an established clinical neuroscience center affiliated with Yale University with over 40 faculty, postdocs and research assistants (https://instituteofliving.org/health-professionals/olin-neuropsychiatry-research-center). Our mission is to conduct cutting-edge clinical and cognitive neuroscience research that ultimately can translate to psychiatric care. The Olin Center is located on the grounds of The Institute of Living / Hartford Hospital, providing access to thousands of psychiatric patients each year treated in numerous clinical programs.
